Gordon Home
810 South Alamo Street
In 1900, Moses Sandborn Gordon purchased land and built three houses on it by 1905. This was one of his homes while the other two were built for his daughters, Ruth and Ester. Gordon was born in 1854 to a wealthy New Hampshire family. When Gordon moved to the house he was a widower. His wife died during childbirth with his second daughter. Gordon was interested in ranching and then became an importer of goods from Europe and Mexico. However, Gordon didn’t live in the house long. In 1910 he was residing in a California tuberculosis clinic. One of the daughter’s houses burned down, while the other one still stands at 804 Alamo directly north of the home.
The house was sold in 1913 to Samuel Cooper. Samuel Cooper was born in 1838 in North Carolina. He married his wife Sarah Jane Parton in 1867 in Mississippi and came to Texas just seven days after their wedding. After moving to Weatherford from a farm southwest of Buckner, Texas, the Coopers moved into the house with their daughter Charlie Edna Stephens and their granddaughter Fern Stephens. Charlie had married in 1900 and Fern was born the next year although Charlie’s husband died in 1902.
