Tate Home

808 South Lamar

This large, beautifully restored Queen Anne Victorian style mansion was built in 1897 by William E. Tate, leading Weatherford merchant who sold buggies, hardware and saddles at Tate’s Vehicle Repository.  The home was constructed with many of the outstanding characteristics of its day.  On the exterior you will find a wrap around gingerbread front porch and a two story tower.  On the interior, venture upstairs to a Victorian ballroom with a domed ceiling and Tudor style wainscoting.  Additionally, you will discover elaborate interior woodwork, detailed doorway fretwork with transoms, five carved fireplace mantels, ten feet tall sliding pocket doors, and an antique gas light fixture in the formal dining room.  The mansion has more than 5,500 square feet with fifteen rooms and has recently been repainted as a Victorian Painted Lady of twelve historic colors.  The home sits upon five pastoral acres of terraced hillside, including a swimming pool and original windmill well house.
