Keaton Home

1013 North Elm

This home is a late Victorian-style structure built in 1910 by A.D. and Jennie Lee Keaton, at a cost of $850.  The home features steeply-pitched gables and a lovely front porch trimmed with gingerbread-style turning and fretwork.  It was also the childhood home of R. Roy Keaton, who became the Director General of Lions Club International in 1948, and was credited with profoundly expanding the organization in the U.S. and abroad.  The property originally included a smokehouse, chicken house, a barn, and a windmill/water tower.  Referencing the photograph of the home dating from 1911, the front porch has recently been restored.
